Important tasks of the temporal lobe that appear as a deficit in the event of injury, bleeding or ischemia are: conscious perception of sounds, language comprehension, allocation of sounds, olfactory information processing, taste, visceral sensation processing, balance sensations. With acoustically evoked potentials, the potential amplitudes can be assigned to defined anatomical structures and vice versa, to corresponding pathologies. The insula is a key player in vegetative regulation. The hippocapal structures are located deep in the temporal lobe. Furthermore, clinically, the temporal lobe often plays a dominant role in the development and treatment of various forms of epilepsy.
