The main function of the parietal lobe is to integrate sensory informations. Components of this function are: conscious awareness of somatic structures, visual control of movements, recognition of stimuli, spatial attention, the switching from one stimulus to the other, spatial thinking and “quasi-spatial” processes such as arithmetic and reading. Furthermore, intraparietal sulcus serves as functional center between sensory systems and motor system for calculation and execution and control of hand and eye movements. Here an overview with special attention to somatosensory pathways, culminating in parietal lobe.
