Diffusion Hypoxia and Second Gas Effect / 139-L-PA-8

Art.Nr.: 139-L-PA-8

Anesthesia with nitrous oxide is still widespread. a particularly important aspect of nitrous oxide anesthesia is diffusion hypoxia: nitrous oxide diffuses more easily through the alveolocapillary membrane than oxygen! the result can be life-threatening hypoxemia from nitrous oxide anesthesia. 2nd gas effect: alveolo-capillary uptake of nitrous oxide increases alveolar concentration of other gase (as sevoflurane, enflurane, isoflurane, desflurane or halothane).
