This diagram demonstrates the most common, easiest, and safest body locations for central venous catheter (cvc) insertion using ultrasound guidance. Common indications for inserting a central vein catheter are: infusion of vasoactive drugs/ infusion of vein-irritating drugs (e.g. chemotherapy drugs, KCl, anti-infectives, etc.)/ parenteral nutrition (hyperoncotic solutions [>800mosml])/ safe vein access in poor peripheral vein status or peripheral injuries/ relatively safe access for restless, agitated patients/ monitoring of ScvO2, CVP, CO (cardiac output) & avdo2/ transvenous pacemaker therapy
