This diagram shows the basic procedure for measuring and inserting intravascular blood pressure in common, peripheral arteries using the seldinger technique. Measurements are usually made in mmHg (Torr). Depending on the vessel, usual sizes are 18-22 gauge and 5 to 15 cm long. The Allen test is primarily of forensic importance, but can be performed and documented quickly and at the bedside.
